During my time in Ghana, I had the privilege of teaching at a local school, where I worked closely with incredible students whose joy and resilience inspired me daily. The kindness the kids showed me inspires me to practice that same kindness.
I also spent time learning in public and private hospitals, gaining firsthand insight into the healthcare system and how it affects childhood
These experiences opened my eyes to both the challenges and strengths of the systems of Ghana, and they have given me a deeper appreciation for cultural differences in caregiving and teaching practices which will help me in my future career as a therapist.
Beyond the academic aspects, I formed lifelong friendships with local children who welcomed me into their lives, and with fellow Michigan State University students who I spent significant time with. Together, we navigated cultural differences, learned new customs, and grew in understanding and compassion. The lessons I brought back with me about empathy, community, adaptability, and
the strength of human connections are ones I will remember forever.
This program was truly life-changing, and it would not have been possible without your support. Thank you for believing in students like me and investing in opportunities that build connections across cultures and across the world. Your generosity has made a lasting impact on my life, and I hope one day to pay it forward. I will bring this new cultural understanding to my studies and future endeavors.
