Read Biography

Biography: Lisa Frugé joined the African Studies Center in June 1996 as the Editorial Assistant and was recently promoted to Editor of the African Studies Center's weekly bulletin. Lisa works closely with the Assistant Director to host 12 to 14 speakers per semester for weekly seminars, as well as assist with coordinating major events for the unit. Lisa handles all of the communications for the office and has served as the resource person and "face" of the Center for many years.

Lisa graduated from Spring Arbor University with a bachelor's of science in Organizational Management. In June 2015, Lisa was a recipient of the Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Award.

Biography: Dr. Robert Glew is Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the Office for International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University. Dr. Glew has 30 years of experience working on issues of international development in the areas of coping and livelihood strategies, education, health, political and social change, and identity politics. He has co-directed successful collaborative projects with university, NGO, and governmental partners in Burkina Faso, China, Ghana, Iraq, Mali, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Tanzania. Dr. Glew also serves as the director of the Center for Advanced Study of International Development, and professor of international development studies at MSU. Dr. Glew earned his BA and MA in African Languages and Literature from the University of Wisconsin—Madison and a PhD in Anthropology from Michigan State University. He has taught courses on international development, cultural change, and socio-cultural diversity. He also speaks French and Hausa and has studied Fulfulde.
