Made friends quickly with similar interests

I attended a Child Psychology course which only took a couple of hours for three days each week. While I had many rigorous assignments, I was also able to spend time exploring Ireland. I travelled to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, and Belfast through my program, and I visited Howth, a town just outside of Ireland, twice. On top of travelling, I met so many new people and spent a lot of my days out in the heart of Dublin.

This study abroad program was my first experience travelling internationally by myself, so I was nervous at first, but just a few days into the program, I realized there was nothing to be afraid of anymore. I feel more capable and eager for greater independence in my life. I would recommend studying abroad for any student with the ability to go because from my experience, I and many other students loved the new environment and balance between studying and intercultural destinations during the program. I started the program knowing no one else but left having made friends with like-minded people who enjoyed studying Psychology but also shared similar interests and outlooks on life.

I really liked the program staff. They were simultaneously helpful and a joy to be around. I never felt very stressed when working on assignments besides thinking about meeting deadlines.

Additionally, the faculty who were a part of the program day trips showed us many great sites, such as the Irish Republican and British Unionist memorials in Belfast but also gave us space to explore on our own.

Overall, I am still in disbelief that I was able to be a part of a month-long study abroad program. I feel like I have changed as a person, and it was ultimately from looking into Michigan State’s education abroad opportunities on a whim.
