Homer Higbee International Education Award

The Homer Higbee International Education Award recognizes full-time and degree seeking MSU students at the undergraduate and graduate level who are making significant contributions to the support of international awareness at MSU through involvement in programs that promote cross-cultural understanding on campus and in the community.


Eligibility Requirements

Nominees for the Homer Higbee award must be:

  • A full-time, degree seeking undergraduate or graduate student at MSU
  • Either an international student studying at MSU -OR- a domestic student who has participated in one or more semesters with an education abroad program

Submitting a Nomination

The nomination window for the 2021 International Awards has closed. Nominations for next year's awards will open late this fall.

To submit a nomination, submit a Homer Higbee International Education Award nomination form that includes:

  • A letter of nomination from MSU faculty or staff or members of the Greater Lansing or Michigan community who are familiar with the contributions of the nominee. The nominator(s) should briefly describe the nominee's contributions to international communication, understanding, and cooperation. Give specific examples of how this student meets the award criteria including the setting, duration and impact of the candidate's service and activities.
  • The nominee's curriculum vitae or resume.

Recipients will receive a cash award, but financial need is not a criterion for this award.

The Homer Higbee International Education Award Fund was established to honor the memory of Homer Higbee, who dedicated his professional life to international education exchange during the 25 years that he served in the Office of International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University.
