Please review the most recent update to campus. For the next eight weeks (as of January 30, 2020), MSU is suspending all nonessential MSU-sponsored travel to China. The university will continue to welcome and support our students, visitors and scholars from China - they each are essential in the continued fueling of discoveries and scholarship and more importantly, the vibrancy of our Spartan community.

We are sharing some information regarding the on-going outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan, China caused by novel (new) coronavirus. We are monitoring this evolving situation with MSU's University Physician. Please review the key points below and the travel health notices issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the U.S. Department of State, and MSU's medical and security assistance provider, International SOS.

• The CDC has issued a Warning - Level 3 (Avoid Nonessential Travel) for China.
• The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 4 (Do Not Travel) Travel Advisory for  mainland China.
• Person-to-person transmission is occurring although it is unclear how easily the virus spreads between people.
• All travelers should:
  • Practice good hygiene including washing hands regularly with soap and water and/or using hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid animals.
  • Avoid sick people.
  • Be prepared for enhanced screening procedures at major airports which may cause travel delays.

  • Seek guidance from the MSU Travel Clinic and/or International SOS (1-215-942-8478) if you have specific questions or concerns. Travelers with pre-existing conditions are especially encouraged to contact a travel health professional before international travel.
  • Seek medical advice and care if you feel sick. Those who have registered MSU-sponsored international travel have access to International SOS services (information for education abroad travelers, information for non-education abroad travelers).
• Know that while MSU will do its best to assist those unable to enter the US, the university must adhere to US government regulations.
• Be aware that international flights, including those used for personal travel, may be canceled with little notice and rebooking can often be expensive or even impossible.
